Imagine this...
One day you’re a carefree child, whose biggest concern is soccer practice and spending time with friends; and the next day your life takes a u-turn and you feel helpless and trapped. This is what happened to me when I first learned I had Crohn's disease. This is the story of the hill I climbed.
My Name is Noah and when I was in 7th grade I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease.
When I was diagnosed with Crohn’s I was far from the point where I could just take some medicine and be all right. I had to start from scratch. At first I had to go on an all liquid diet for 3 months where I could only drink water and protein shakes. It sounded all right until I realized I had to drink 7 shakes a day for 90 days without any other food. After a grueling 3 months I slowly started advancing my diet, consuming only the most bland and basic foods. I am still learning how to climb the hill of my diet and my diagnosis.
During this time I relied heavily on my family, friends and teachers for support and wouldn’t be able to be as healthy mentally and physically as I am today without them. Before this experience I was hesitant to ask for help but
the experience taught me that it’s ok to get assistance and lean on others when you need to.
We are often afraid of asking for help, thinking it makes us come across as needy or weak. This is far from the truth and asking for help can build better connections and trust with people.
